On our way!

October 1, 2006

The alarm didn’t even need to go off! I was wide-awake at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, ready to begin my journey. After last minute checking and rechecking in an attempt to not forget anything, we were off to Omaha, thanks to my husband Tom, who promised to wake me as we got closer to the airport. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the other Nebraska Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund recipient, Chris Peterson from North Bend, NE.

We checked our bags in, and luckily when the nice United Airlines man announced “51” pounds, he made me promise to have it under 50 pounds on my return. I think I might be in trouble!

After a quick goodbye, because saying goodbye is never easy for me, Tom watched me walk down the aisle towards security. Trying to be a good listener and follow directions, I took my shoes off, laid my carry on suitcase onto the moving belt, emptied anything suspicious out of my purse, dropped my purse in another tote, and walked through. I didn’t beep! Phew! However, what happened next, would be a test of my resolve to convince these airport authority people, I did not intend to pack wrong. After four attempts to find something which set off the alarm, they attempted to reteach me pack so this would not happen again.

Finally, we were on our way!
